Rock idol Courtney Love plans to show her support for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation by having a special 'Sophie' guitar made in her memory.

Courtney LoveThe lead singer of Hole says she has asked guitar makers Fender to make the instrument dedicated to the murdered 20-year-old as part of a collection for the band.

It will join another made in memory of her late husband and former lead singer of Nirvana, Curt Cobain.

The controversial artist told Sophie's mum Sylvia about the tribute on the night of the Hole's much-awaited concert in the capital last Thursday.

Sylvia said: "We spoke to Courtney before the gig. When she saw me she put her arms around me. She said she supports everything we are doing and she is in talks with Fender guitars to see if she can have a guitar made named Sophie.

"She's a lovely lady and it was really poignant."

Sylvia travelled down to see the band's first UK performance in 11 years after Courtney heard about the Sophie Lancaster Foundation through the charity's make-up brand Illamasqua.

Sylvia, from Haslingden, has pioneered the mission to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere ever since her daughter was murdered in Bacup's Stubbylee Park in 2007, for being a goth.

Courtney was seen sporting S.O.P.H.I.E wristbands on TV chat show Jonathan Ross earlier this month, and at the Brits last week.

The star took 400 more to hand out at the NME Awards held in the capital on Wednesday.

Sylvia said: "Courtney used to be a punk herself so fully understands the issues we are campaigning about. It was sad in that it should have been Sophie and Rob there, not me. But I’m proud that someone in the spotlight is creating important support for the foundation.

"It's about getting the message out there and she does that very well - she's like rock royalty."
