The charity established following the hate motivated murder of Sophie Lancaster will hold the world’s first Alternative Hate Crime Conference in Lancashire on 26th November 2014.

“Alternative Solutions to Hate Crime – An Holistic Approach For 2014” will bring together international delegates and speakers.

Sylvia Lancaster O.B.E. (awarded for “Community Cohesion, Especially Reduction In Hate Crime) said;

“I am proud to welcome guests to this important conference and invite people from the fields of hate crime, justice, policing and education to join us as we share the impact of our partnership working.

Since the hateful murder of my daughter, Sophie, the Foundation has worked to develop alternative solutions to tackling hate crime through education, not just in schools, but within professional organizations including police and housing associations. Marking what should have been Sophie’s 28th birthday in this unique way is another part of her growing legacy; a legacy that we know has allowed other people to feel safer and more determined to express themselves as they wish.

I am delighted that we will also launch our S.O.P.H.I.E. Primary School Educational Resource. We have been piloting the resource in schools in East Lancashire with support of The Local Paper Big Lottery Fund Award. “

The conference will be held at Burnley Mechanics 9.30am – 4.30pm.
