Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales Conference.

Following Sylvia's presentation at the National ACPO Police Conference in March, she was invited by Superintendent Paul Symes of Gwent Police to be a key note speaker at their Superintendents' Conference last week.

This prestigious event enabled Sylvia to present to senior staff of all the Police Authorities from England and Wales. They asked that she did not hold back as they wanted the delegates to leave knowing they had to take action !

Sylvia followed the Home Secretary, Teresa May and preceded the new Justice Minister, Damian Green.

The delegates were attentive from the off, you could have heard a pin drop in the packed room until Sylvia spoke about the justice system, when they gave her the biggest round of applause ever !

The delegates, throughout their careers, have dealt with some of the worse cases of murder in the country so they knew exactly what Sylvia was talking about and were clearly moved by her description of the impact of Sophie's death on her, Sophie's family and the wider community.

The comments from the floor following the presentation included:

'You have reminded us all why we came into this job'

The one-to-one feedback was incredibly positive. Superintendent Gary Ashton of Northamptonshire Police told us :-

"Your presentation to the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales was moving and inspirational. The senselessness and tragedy of Sophie's attack and death must be all consuming. To find the strength to build something so positive for the future and bring hope to others is an inspiration."

The warmth with which we were received at the conference was quite overwhelming and the many offers of follow up work with the various individual Police Authorities will be hugely beneficial to us all.
